You are here: Blog >> Palm Treo 750v and Vodafone Live

Vodafone tells you Vodafone live is not supported on the Palm Treo 750v. They don't, but that is the conclusion of reading this.

By email, this is what they replied this morning: "The Mobile Internet is not available on the palm treo. The handset must be vodafone live enabled. If you have any further queries do not hesitate to contact us on 1907"

Vodafone live is actually WAP rebranded. So, if your phone specifications don't say "WAP enabled", in theory, you cannot access Vodafone Live. Well done to the Vodafone marketing team!

Hard to believe?

The Treo 750v comes with Internet Explorer mobile, that supports the WAP protocol (I have upgraded my Treo to Windows Mobile 6), and it works when the Palm is connected to a PC or through a WIFI card.

Here is how to do it.

How do you set it?

  • Start / Settings / Connections / Connections
  • My ISP: Manage exisiting connections
  • Vodafone MISP: Edit and replace with live.vodafone.com

How do you browse?

  • Open Internet Explorer mobile
    • type "wsp://wap.vodafone.ie/live" to access vodafone live
  • To access another site, type wsp://site_domain.tld
    • example: wsp://wap.wandsoft.com

What's next

  • We're going to work on a small wapmail client to avail of the 99c a day for 50Mb traffic.
  • We need to find a way to use Remote Desktop through the Vodafone Live gateway

Update (Feb 2009): get a Palm Treo Pro, with built-in Wifi.
